Project Enhancements extends standard project functionality in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. The offering provides smarter defaults, tighter controls, and deeper financial insight to manage projects according to organisational needs. The app refines every stage of the project lifecycle, addressing setup efficiency, access governance, and financial visibility throughout project workflows.

Capabilities

Smart Project Defaults

Eliminates repetitive setup on new projects by saving time and enforcing consistency. The app configures intelligent defaults automatically applied when creating new projects, reducing manual effort and error risk. Default project status automatically assigns a starting status (Planning, Quote, Open) to every new project, default Gen. Product Posting Group pre-fills the general product posting group on new planning lines for correct financial postings, and centralised configuration manages all defaults from the enhanced Jobs Setup page.

User-Level Access Control

Introduces per-user permissions allowing administrators to decide exactly who can change project status, adding governance to project workflows. Allow Project Status Quote grants or revokes the ability to set a project to Quote status per user, User Setup integration manages permissions directly from the standard User Setup page, and quote action visibility automatically hides the Send Job Quote action unless the project is in Quote status.

Built-In Profit % Calculator

Adds a Profit % field on Job Planning Lines working bidirectionally -- view auto-calculated margin based on cost/price, or enter desired profit percentage to have unit price computed. Auto-calculation recalculates Profit % automatically when cost or price changes, reverse pricing sets unit price from a target Profit %, inline display puts the field beside Unit Price on planning lines, and accurate margins eliminate guesswork and manual spreadsheet calculations.

Enhanced WIP Posting Groups

Splits standard Business Central's single cost account per resource/item type into granular categories, giving finance teams precise control over Work in Progress cost allocation. Resource costs applied -- Person vs. Machine posts person and machine resource costs to separate G/L accounts, item costs applied -- Inventory vs. Service distinguishes physical inventory items from service-type items during WIP posting, automatic routing selects the correct account during WIP calculation, and standard page integration configures new accounts on the Job Posting Groups page.

Improved Job Quotes

Extends the standard Job Quote report with additional data columns and ensures quote-related actions only appear when contextually appropriate, preventing misuse. Item Type column adds Item Type (Inventory, Service, Non-Inventory) to the report, context-aware actions show the Send Job Quote action only when project status is Quote, and editable posting groups make Gen. Product Posting Group on planning lines editable for flexibility.
